Over the past few weeks, Brierley Homes has been proud to support apprentice Tom Johnson by welcoming him on site to complete key elements of his portfolio.
Tom is currently working towards his Level 2 NVQ in Joinery with Broadacres, alongside attending York College one week each month. With plans to progress onto his Level 3 qualification, Tom is continuing to build the skills needed for a successful career in joinery. Once fully qualified, Tom hopes to secure a full-time role with Broadacres, with the ambition of joining their Empty Homes team.
Speaking about his experience, Tom said:
“Brierley Homes have been supporting me through my exam by showing me roofing work that I haven’t experienced before. I’m planning to return to their site at Kirkby Malzeard to work on stairs, which is the final piece of evidence I need for my portfolio.”
Brierley Homes Site Manager, Darren added:
“We were pleased to have Tom on site and support him in gathering the evidence required for his apprenticeship. We work closely with Broadacres, so we were more than happy to help one of their apprentices in this way.”
Dan Donaghy, Construction Manager at Broadacres said:
“I started my own career in construction as an apprentice joiner, so I understand first hand how important it is to gain varied and real on-site experience at this stage. Support like this is crucial in helping apprentices develop their skills, confidence and understanding of the trade. We’re proud to see Tom progressing well and grateful to Brierley Homes for working with us to support the next generation of trades people coming into the industry.”
At Brierley Homes, we are committed to supporting the development of young people and investing in the future of the construction industry.
